History · Blackburn Hamlet area
Where did Blackburn Hamlet get its name?
Short answer
The community took its name from Robert Blackburn, a reeve in 1864 and later Member of Parliament for Russell. A post office secured in 1876 led to the area being known as 'Blackburn', and it was renamed 'Blackburn Hamlet' when the planned community was built.
